It’s handbags at dawn time as Ri-Ri goes up against Kylie and former bff Katy Perry for the International Female Solo Artist crown.
This year’s Brit for Best International Female Artist looks set to be the cat fight of the year as former best buds Rihanna and Katy Perry go head to head.The modern queen of soul Alicia Keys first yodelled her way into our ears with her critically acclaimed album Songs in A Minor. Since then she’s gone on to tinkle the ivories and our senses working with Jay Z on the hugely catchy Empire State of Mind.
Katy Perry might have sung about kissing girls but there will be no love lost between her and fellow nominee Rihanna after the babe from Barbados failed to turn up to Katy’s showbiz wedding to comic Russell Brand. In between globetrotting and snaring her Prince Charming, Perry has worked with Pitbull and Snoop Dog, jury’s out on what other dog-themed artists she might collaborate with…
Showing the young guns how it’s done, undisputed international pop goddess Kylie Minogue, is also up for nominations. The woman responsible for making golden hot pants cool and creating a Locomotion dance craze at school discos will not be beaten easily, just don’t let her near Justin Trousersnake ahem Timberlake.
Rihanna got tongues wagging last year for a raunchy performance on the X Factor but can her music do the talking in this category? She has won MOBOs and Grammys and is one of the most successful female artists on the planet, but she has yet to win a Brit award despite three previous nominations.
Lastly this year’s underdog comes in the form of Swedish electro-pop artist, Robyn, who achieved international success with her song With Every Heartbeat. In 2010 she released a trio of albums called Body Talk from which spawned the hit single Dancing On My Own.
