It’s a pretty mixed bunch in this year’s British Group category. From pop legends to Scottish rockers and nu-folk darlings, the nominations are certainly diverse.
Fellow nominees Take That could hardly be more different, the reformed fab five have achieved considerable success since getting back together and letting Robbie in on the action, but how long will it last?
Nu-folk darlings Mumford & Sons have achieved worldwide success for their ukulele loving album Sigh No More. Also nominated for Best Breakthrough Act the boys were nominated for two Grammys in 2010 and have had their music sampled on TV everywhere from Grey’s Anatomy to the beeb.
Damon Albarn’s baby, Gorrilaz, have become well known for their distinctive sound and graphic and after the huge success of their debut album in 2001, when they were also nominated for the Mercury Prize, they went on to earn multiple Grammy nominations for their second album. Although they have been nominated for nine Brit awards in the past, they have never won.
Mercury Prize winners the xx have had an incredible 18 months and have become universally adored by critics and the public. Their distinctive self-titled album sees them nominated for Breakthrough Act at this year’s awards, could they clinch best group too?
