Brit Awards 2011: British Male Artist
A Brit of alright: Mark Ronson is one of the nominees
The British Male Artist category is set to be one of the highlights of the night at this year’s Brit Awards, with top talent such as Paul Weller and Tinie Tempah up for the gong.

Tinie Tempah has had a fantastic year in the music business, and is nominated for a whopping four awards this year, so he’s no doubt one of the hottest contenders in the running.

The 22-year-old rapper, whose recent hits including Written in the Stars and Frisky, was truly catapulted to fame and success after releasing his debut single Pass Out in February last year. Since then there’s been no stopping him, and Tinie has worked with a number of big names in the industry including Rihanna, Snoop Dogg and Tinchy Stryder.

Also in the running for the British Male Artist gong is music producer and performer Mark Ronson, whose work this year has included The Bike Song and Somebody to Love Me.

Robert Plant - best known as the vocalist and lyricist of the rock band Led Zeppelin –has gone on to enjoy solo success in his own right in recent years.

In 2010 the singer-songwriter embarked on a tour with new group Band of Joy (reprising the name of his very first band in the 1960s)  in the US, before announcing an 11-date European tour for late 2010, followed by yet more US tour dates for 2011. He is also in the running to lift the award.

Also up for the gong is rapper and singer Plan B, who has also enjoyed a successful year in the music business, with his second album, which was released in 2010, The Defamation of Strickland Banks, going straight into the UK album chart at the number one position.

Paul Weller rounds off the nominations for British Male Solo Artist. The singer-songwriter has achieved international fame for his music over the last 30 years or so.

Last year was another resounding success for the performer, with his tenth studio album Wake Up the Nation, which was released last year,  hitting the number two position in the UK charts.

Tough competition in the British Male Solo Artist category indeed, and only time will tell who will lift the gong, when the winners are announced on February 15.
