Brit Awards 2011: International Breakthrough Act
It's a clash of the titans for best International Breakthrough Act: the fiersome Glee Cast take on the mighty Justin Bieber and Bruno Mars.Ladies across the country will be swooning as new boy Bruno Mars is on the list for International Breakthrough Act, which is hardly surprising given he’s been nominated for six Grammy’s this year. His best known hits are Just the Way You Are, Nothing on You (with B.o.B.) and the credit crunch appropriate Billionaire (with Travie McCoy).
Love em or hate em the Glee Cast will be overjoyed to find themselves in the running for breakthrough act after storming the world’s screens and radios over the past year with their incessant cheery smiles, jazz hands and show choir stylings. Their cover of Journey’s Don’t Stop Believing put them firmly on the map; world domination could be next.
Canadian pop-prince Justin Bieber has taken over from 1990s Aaron Carter as the clean cut poster boy of choice for teenage girls the world over. As Bieber-fever sweeps the globe we wonder if the Brit Awards ceremony might be passed the young lad’s bedtime.
The National are about as far as you can go from Mr Bieber. Hailing from Ohio this American indie group were stout supported of Obama and played at his political rallies donating all proceeds to the campaign. Politics aside, in 2010 they release critically acclaimed album High Violet which has gained a cult following.
Aussie alternative rockers The Temper Trap are the sole representatives from the southern hemisphere in this category. Sweet Disposition, the lead single from their 2009 debut album, was an infectious summer anthem that was quickly popularised by airplay and by Diet Coke and Chrysler who used it in TV ads.
